使用CPT工作,必须知道这20件事

  1. F-1 students are eligible for curricular practical training (CPT) at either the undergraduate or the graduate level during the program of study.
  1. Every F1 student who U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USClS) grants employment authorization needs an SSN.
  1. If you decide that you want to work, the first step is always to talk with your designated school official (DSO)
  1. If you wish to cancel your CPT or edit your CPT end date on your 1-20,you must: complete the CPT Cancellation/Withdraw Form on the student resource page.
  1. Only one online class can count toward a full course of study for an F-1 student during each term or semester.
  1. OPT is a form of temporary employment that directly relates to your program of study.
  1. Students cannot exceed 12 months of full-time CPT or they will lose their OPT eligibility.
  1. The student cannot start work prior to the CPT start date. All work must end by the CPT end date.
  1. To verify your status, some agencies use the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) Program.
  1. lf a student fails the CPT Course, they are not eligible for CPT the following semester.
  1. lf you choose to work without authorization, you will be forced to leave the United States immediately.
  1. lf you request a reduced course load (RCL), you cannot continue with your CPT authorization.
  1. Students cannot work on CPT after completion of the program end date.

  • Wait 10 days after arriving in the United States before applying for an SSN to allow enough time for your arrival information to update in all government systems.
  • Talk with your DSO about working and training in the United States
  • Visit your local SSA office
  • Begin working after you obtain your SSN.
  1. You should speak with your DSO when you want to:
  • Travel outside the United States
  • Take a break from school.
  • Request a program extension.

You do not need to speak with your DSO to add more courses. You need to speak with your academic advisor about class drop/add.

  1. Students need to re-apply for CPT authorization when they have a new job title, or renew their CPT authorization after one year of the initial CPT authorization.

Students do not need to re-apply for CPT authorization when they:

  • Receive Each Paycheck
  • Extend Employment After 6 Months of initial CPT authorization
  • Have a Pay Raise
  1. OPT:
  • The student is issued an Employment Authorization Document (EAD).
  • Occurs after the student’s program end date on the Form 1-20.
  • Training relates directly to the student’s major area of study.

CPT:

  • Authorization is for one specific employer and for a specific period of time.
  • Occurs before the student’s program end date on the Form 1-20.
  • Training relates directly to the student’s major area of study.
  1. You must maintain a GPA of 3.0 to be eligible for CPT authorization.
